Vanth is a chthonic figure in Etruscan mythology shown in a variety of media, such as tomb paintings and on sarcophagi. Present during occasions of slaughter and murder, including scenes from the Trojan cycle. Occasionally, she is shown as a solitary figure rising up out of the ground to escort the dead on their journey to the Underworld. She is a young, vibrant female figure, sometimes in the company of other Vanths. She is the winged demon of death. |
